I was a team-mate of Harold's at Valley Head High School in 1949-50.. I think there are maybe two of us left from those days. Harold was one of the toughest ballplayers I can remember, and was our unquestioned leader. Hello Nancy. I am so sorry for your loss

My condolences to your family. Although I have not met you, I have pictures of Alma with her cousin, Eliza Byrd White.

Coach Wilkes was a super person and helped me to return to school and football after my service in Vietnam. Caring, tough, but a great coach and friend. He will be missed by so many.
His friend,
Rockwood

I knew Coach Wilkes for 48 years. He was one of the finest men I've ever had the pleasure to know. I started working for him and his long time secretary, Mrs. Johnnie Jackson, in 1969 when as a freshman at UTC, I became their first student assistant. I was truly blessed to get that job. Coach Wilkes was a wonderful gentleman, coach, & mentor to all the students. He cared about everyone on the staff as well as his players. He loved his daughters, Jerri & Paula, and his wonderful wife Nancy. He will be greatly missed by his friends, fellow UC football team members, Quarterback Club members, former players, and the entire UTC family. Heaven has gained another faithful saint. My deepest sympathy is extended to his beloved family.

I am truly sorry for your loss. I know this is a hard time for your family so I wanted to share a comforting scripture with you. At John 5:28,29, Jesus tells us about a time when those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out. This is a promise from God, by means of Jesus. We can look forward to this and more in the near future. Again, my heart goes out to your family.

My prayers go out to Nancy and the Wilkes family. As a 18 kid from Boston in 1964 Coach was the first person I met when I arrived on campus on August 17,1964. It was 103 degrees and as I got out of the taxi in front of the men's dorm, Coach met me and said "Welcome" boy are you a long way from home! He was hard nosed and some did not understand his demand of excellence from each and everyone of us. Our Lord has added another great coach and man to his team. God Bless you Harold, we love you.
