Shirley Jo Harrison, 88, of Chattanooga, died Sunday morning, November 27, 2016. Shirley Jo was a resident of Chattanooga, TN for the last 13 years after having relocated from California.

Shirley Jo was born in New London, Connecticut to the late Clarence Eugene and Elisabeth Gallup. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Wilbur Harrison; brother, James Gallup and sister, Clareen Arnold. Shirley Jo loved the Lord with all her heart and soul and attended Abba’s House Baptist Church in Hixson, TN where she was a great prayer warrior.

Shirley Jo is survived by her daughters, Carol Poll of Chattanooga and Grace Harrison of California; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Donna Harrison of Chattanooga; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Janet Gallup; grandchildren, Shelley Jeter, Anitra Harrison; great-grandchildren, Hayden Jeter, Kirstin Jeter and Logan Jeter; great-great grandchildren, Jace Jeter and Victoria Jeter; and several nieces and nephews.

Shirley Jo worked many years as a Braille transcriber for the San Bernardino School District in California. She also worked many years as a receptionist at a doctor’s office until she retired in 1993. After retiring Shirley Jo volunteered as a peer counselor for Senior Citizens who had lost loved ones or had relocated to be near family and needed help with transition.

Shirley Jo’s devotion and love for her family as well as her firm belief in God will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a wonderful example of strength, dignity, peace, courage, and most importantly love. Our lives will be forever blessed to have called her “ours”.

The family would like to give a special thanks to all the staff at Life Care Center of Red Bank.

In accordance with Shirley Jo's wishes, she will be cremated and no memorial services are planned at this time.
