Evangelist Bobby Y. Brown was born January 25, 1934 in Evansville, Indiana the only child to Robert Samuel & Minnie Mae Brown. He was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, minister, musician and evangelist
He left this life to be with his Lord and Savior, September 24, 2018 at the age of 84 years and 8 months.
He was married to Gretchen (Britton) Brown in 1954 when they embarked together on their life-long dedication to each other and full-time Christian ministry. Bobby served the Lord as a Musician, Youth Pastor, Church Planter, Senior Pastor and traveling Evangelist with Gretchen at his side.
He was a loving father to two sons and three daughters: Scott & Pam Brown - Brand of the Cross Ministries (Ringgold, GA), Lynda & Jim Rushing - pastor of Temple Baptist Church (Chattanooga, TN), Capt. Steve Brown - owner Lock-N’-Load Charters (Santa Rosa Beach, FL), Lori & Lance Woods - Mayor & Realtor (Signal Hill, CA), Lois & Bobby McNair- Lois McNair Ministries & Interim Pastor (Foley, AL).
He was a proud Grandfather of Kendall Brown-Backurz, Caleb Brown, Katie Brown, Micah McNair, Skyler Woods, Garrett Rushing, Joylyn Rushing, Celeste Woods-Uemura, Meagan McNair, Kelsea Brown, Morgan McNair, Sierra Woods, Savannah Woods & Macauley McNair who each lovingly call him ‘Pappy’ and who were each given an endearing nickname by him. He was a very proud Great-Grandfather to Callan Rushing.
‘Pappy’ will forever be remembered for his fun-loving practical jokes, entertaining voices, storytelling, humor & ventriloquism.
In 1952, Bobby graduated from Central High School, (Evansville, Indiana). He graduated in 1956 from Tennessee Temple College and in 1958 from Temple Theological Seminary (Chattanooga, Tennessee). Ever faithful to his calling to serve the Lord, Bobby & Gretchen have enjoyed over 64 years of fulltime Christian ministry together.
He was used by the Lord to preach, teach, sing, and conduct family vacation bible schools in over 600 churches throughout the United States, Canada, Japan, Germany & Spain.
In 1983 he received his first invitation to minister to our American Military personnel, his passion to minister to our Troops and their families led him to an additional 32 trips overseas over the past three decades.
‘Pappy’s’ other passions included ‘coon’ hunting as a young man with his faithful coon-dog, many memorable fishing expeditions with his friends, sons, sons-in-law and grandchildren. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsmen.
