John C. Maloney died on December 27, 2019. He grew up in Laurel, Nebraska, graduated from the University of Nebraska, and earned his PhD at Purdue University. John used his training in psychology and research methods to become a leader in the fields of advertising and marketing. He owned a consulting business in Chicago and was on the faculty of Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism. John was generous in his mentoring of young researchers, and he loved to share the delights of Chicago with his extended Nebraska family. He had a passionate interest in reading and writing about neuropsychology, and he enjoyed woodworking, travel, and live jazz. In retirement he and his wife enjoyed many pleasurable hours in their bird-friendly backyard and at the nearby Chicago Botanic Garden.
John was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Maybelle ("Mike"). He is survived by five daughters: Connie Robinson, Sheila Marsh, Barbara Maloney, Jane Bard, and Lynn Maloney; and three granddaughters: Jessica Love, Zoe Rodine, and Theodora Rodine.
John thoroughly enjoyed his unexpected final chapter in Chattanooga. The family expresses deep appreciation to Manorhouse Assisted Living and Hospice of Chattanooga for their compassionate care.
