Adelaide Louise Baser Wigren, 97, of Signal Mountain died on Thursday, December 24, 2015 in Atlanta, GA. Adelaide was born in Brooklyn, NY on January 29, 1918. She was raised in Teaneck, NJ, and was a graduate of Teaneck High School. During her school years, Adelaide was an outstanding athlete. She excelled in basketball, even being asked to play on the boys team. After high school, she attended one year of secretarial school in New York City. She met Sterling Wigren at St. Pauls Lutheran Church, and they were married in 1942. In 1965, they moved to Signal Mountain. Adelaide was an avid bridge player, and was passionate about golf both playing and watching on television. She was a charter member of the Signal Mountain Womens investment club and served as President into her 90s. Adelaide was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hixson. There, she was a long time member of the Alter Guild, and cherished her Wild Womens Weekend trips to Lutherridge. A natural leader, she passed on her love of God to her family. Her warm personality made her a friend to all that she met, and quiet strength was her trademark. She always led by example. Adelaide was truly beloved and adored by all that knew her. Adelaide was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sterling Wigren, her parents, Fredrick C Baser, and Adelaide C Baser, her brother Frederick R Baser, and her grandson, Adam C Dean.
She is survived by her devoted daughter Pamela Covington with her husband Dallas, and her devoted daughter Nancy Dean with her husband Stephen. She is also survived by her five grandchildren; grandson Dallas Covington and wife Lauren, grandson Dietrich Covington and wife Tina, grandson Wilson Covington and wife Katie, granddaughter Whitney Gallardo and husband Justin, and grandson Travis Dean. She had seven great-grandchildren; Sarah, Gardner, Rhodes, Hudson, Jackson, Cooper, and Henry. She is also survived by her dear nephew and 2 beloved nieces.
Dr. Robert Stelter will conduct a graveside service at Chattanooga National Cemetery on Tuesday, December 29, at 11:30 am.
