Obituary

Barbara Tyson Anderson of Signal Mountain passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017. She was born in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Eva Copeland and T Stanley Tyson and attended West End High School in Nashville. She graduated from Florida Southern College, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority and taught school in Nashville before moving to Chattanooga in 1960.

As a longtime member of Signal Crest United Methodist Church, she faithfully served in many capacities. She particularly enjoyed the 15 years she taught the 3-year class in the church pre-school program. She never forgot a former student's name and truly enjoyed her connection to the young families on the mountain.

She served as a volunteer with the Signal Mountain Social Services Clothes House and food pantry. Over the years, she was active in many other community organizations- from delivering meals on wheels to painting the carousel horses at Coolidge Park.

Barbara was a loyal and valued friend. She was responsible and supportive. Always gracious, she would share her friends' burdens, as if they were her own. She was modest, active and fun to be around. She left behind many loving friends who will cherish her memory.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 58 years, James P. Anderson, Jr. who will miss her greatly. She is also survived by her children, James p. Anderson, III (Margaret) of Franklin, Tennessee and Eva Louise Currin (Don) of Hermosa Beach, California; and by her beloved grandchildren, who called her Babs; Sheppard Gage Anderson and Helen Wallace Anderson of Franklin and Annie Tyson Currin, Sophie Austin Currin and Eliza Chastain Currin of Hermosa Beach. Also surviving, is her sister, Mary Tyson Bower of Redding, California; and brother, Wallace Stanley Tyson of Franklin.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 2nd at 2 pm at Signal Crest United Methodist Church. The family will receive visitors prior to the service at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to Signal Crest United Methodist Church, 1005 Ridgeway Avenue, Signal Mountain, TN 37377.
