Obituary

Betty Jane Taylor Cresswell was called home on December 8, 2025 to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in whom she placed her trust for salvation in 1954. Born October 5th, 1930 in Alpharetta Ga. as the youngest of two girls to Herman and Gertrude Taylor. The family moved to St.Elmo, Tennessee sometime around 1940 to work in the Textile Mills in Rossville, Ga. Betty met J. C. Cresswell while working behind the soda fountain at the Incline Drug Store in St. Elmo. They were married shortly after that on December 19, 1947. Betty would remain a homemaker for her family for most of her life devoting herself selflessly and completely to the care and nurture of her family. She is the incredible Mother to four children- Ronnie-Phyllis-Rickie and Dennis. She was also an unparalleled cook-seamstress-nurse- doctor-counselor to us all and could always write a killer term paper! Preceded in death by her parents Herman and Gertrude Taylor; Sister Doris Culver of Chicago, Ill. and her Beloved Husband of 64 years, J. C. Cresswell. Betty was a member of Lupton Dr Baptist Church for more than 50 years. She was a faithful choir member and sang alto for the Luptonaires quartet for more than 25 years; traveling throughout the southeast providing music for revivals. Betty, (Grandma), is survived by her four children; Ronnie Cresswell of Dallas, Tx, Rickie (Cheri) Cresswell of Cleveland, Tn- Phyllis McNutt of Red Bank, Tn- Dennis (Teresa) Cresswell of Cleveland, Tn. Betty is also survived by her 11 Grand Children- 23 Great Grand Children and 2 Great, Great, Grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Honorary Pall Bearers will be the Grandsons- Chris Jones, Jeremy Jones, Shane Cresswell, Jonathan Cresswell, Joseph Cresswell, Jacob Cresswell, Ryan Berry, Joshua Cresswell, Ray Cresswell, Jr. Burial will be at the Chattanooga National Cemetery on December 15 at 2:00 pm. Reverand's Ron Cresswell and Rick Cresswell Officiating. Funeral Arrangements by Covenant Funeral and Crematory, 4340 Bonny Oaks Dr, Chattanooga, TN 37416. A very Special thanks to the incredible staff of Hearth Hospice, Chattanooga. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made in Betty's honor to Meals on Wheels, Chattanooga, Tn.
