Brent Nealson Cox was born in Montgomery, Alabama, with a bunch of nines: 9/9/72, 9:42 pm, weighed 9 pounds. His parents were Wallace Oneal Cox and Janice Sue Conerly.
Graduated from Bass Memorial Academy in 1991, attended Southern Adventist University from 1991 to '92, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from Auburn University at Montgomery in 2006. He worked in construction most of his early adult life, later working at Lowe's in Cleveland TN, and Volkswagen of Chattanooga. He loved collecting tools and telling people how to do things. He could fix anything; get the last word on most conversations; and one-up the punch line of any joke.
His friends nicknamed him Brentifuss early on, usually shortened to Fuss for obvious reasons. He was usually right and never let you forget it.
He was a cat and dog whisperer-even strays would come up to him for attention. Over the years, Adrienne's cats loved him best. The Conerly corgis adored him and were viciously possessive of his attention.
He collected family heirlooms and parted with them grudgingly. His house was a museum of '70s and '80s memorabilia. He alternated driving his dad's 2003 red Toyota Tacoma truck and his own 2012 white Nissan Frontier as they became his trademark.
He is preceded in death by his father, Wallace Oneal Cox, and his Uncle Jim Conerly. He will be forever mourned by his mother, Janice Conerly, his sister, Adrienne Cox, and his niece Anna Olson and nephew Miles Olson, his Uncle Jerre, Aunt Frances, and cousin Kerre Conerly, Aunt Carole and Uncle Danny McDonald, Aunt Janis Conerly, and cousins Denis and Tom McDonald, Janene McDonald Dunstan, Chip, Dale, and Matt Conerly, all of Tennessee. In Alabama, his Aunts Mildred Neeley and Elizabeth Shirley, cousins Diane Neeley, Gail McFall, Sonja Driver, Belinda Dimirjian, Kevin Cox and Korey Cox, and numerous second cousins
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 3 o'clock pm, at Christ Episcopal Church, 663 Douglas St, Chattanooga TN. Interment will be in Collegedale cemetery near his family.
