Charles Edward Schleifer Miller, was born May 3, 1926, Taylors, S. C. and passed away peacefully at home Saturday, February 27, 2016. Charles served his country as a non-combatant in World War II, stationed in Burma. He was predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Sally Miller Schleifer, his first wife, Peggy King Schleifer and his brothers; Fred & Stanley Schleifer. He was married to Ella Rae Hawkins Miller October 10, 1979. Charles was a graduate of Southern School of Optometry and practiced more than forty years. His hobbies were music reading and the love of trains.
He is survived by his spouse, Ella Rae Hawkins Miller, one brother, John (Thea) Schleifer of Loma Linda, CA and one sister, Freida (Willis) Fox of Yucaipa, CA. He has three children from his first marriage, Janeth Leigh Schleifer, Jon Michael (Debra Joy) Schleifer and Kieth Randolph (Kate) Schleifer; two step-children, R. L. Lofty and Tina Kylene Lofty Arthur; seven grandchildren, Stephanie Schleifer (Thaddeus) Lozenski, Summer Elise Schleifer (Scott) Cronin, Julie Melissa Schleifer (Daniel) Reynolds, Robert Joseph Wayne Lofty, Breanna Leigh Lofty, Zachary Blake Arthur and Emily Rae Arthur; three great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pastor Brian Burgess and Pastor Greg Daniel will conduct a memorial service Saturday, March 5 at 3 p.m. in Apison SDA Church on Bates Road. Visitation will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Apison SDA Church handicapped bathroom.
