Obituary

Danny Lee Gann, 64, passed away peacefully at home on January 6, 2026, after a short illness. Danny was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He spent his early life in Ooltewah, Tennessee, and later in the surrounding areas until he found his permanent forever home on Lookout Mountain, Georgia. He was born to Walter Gerald and Mattie Lee (Brown) Gann on December 23, 1961. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Ann Gann. Danny spent his life as a roofer and mechanic. He was an avid fisherman, especially of catfish. He loved being in his boat out on the water. Whenever you saw him, he had a coffee cup in one hand and a cigarette in the other, a smile, a wave, and loads of conversation. As a storyteller, he could keep his audience spellbound for hours. He was funny, witty, and had a great sense of humor. What brought him the most joy was helping those he loved. He would give you the shirt off his back if you asked. He wore many hats during his life, but one thing was consistent: he loved hard, he was a true friend, and he had a heart of gold. He is survived by the love of his life, Teresa; daughters: Heather (Matt) Merinsky, Kristi (Gilbert) Hill, and sons: John (Cherish) Shouldiers and Jason (Joanne) Hill. He took great comfort in that he had a loving family that respected and loved him without reserve. He will be missed by his grandchildren, Eli and Leo Merinsky, Marik and Myla Shouldiers, Christian (Leanna) Hill, Spencer Witt, Riley, Kaley, Katelyn and Laylani Hill. Great granddaughter, Willow Porter. Left to remember him with love: Brothers: Dennis and James Gann; nieces and nephews: Diane, Mark, Sarah, Mattie and Carlos (Poppy). His sisters-in-law, June Williams and Dianne Shirley, and their families brought a great sense of belonging to his life. A special thanks to those who brought such joy to him: Mark and Mary Ann Waters, Savannah and Michael Brown and children, Bret Waters and children; Jamie and Sylvia Stone and Marlene Mashburn. Covenant Funeral & Crematory is handling the cremation. There will be a private burial at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, followed by a Life Celebration for all his friends and family at the Mount Pleasant Community Center on February 7, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. The family would like to express their thanks to Parkridge Hospital and Amedisys Hospice for the compassion and comfort that they brought.
