D. Elizabeth "Liz" Horton was born in Madisonville, TN to David and Effie Powers (deceased) May 13th 1940. She had an elder sister, Patricia who passed away in 2012.

She graduated from Soddy Daisy High in 1957 and went on to study at Tennessee TECH, until she met her husband, Charles W. Horton, with whom she had and is survived by 2 sons, Charles W. Jr. (wife Karen and her daughters, Shannon and Arial) and David H. (fianc) Marla Whitehead and her daughters Harleigh and Lisa and son Royce), who in his first marriage had a daughter Amanda Elanore (Hall).

As a Navy wife, her marriage took her overseas and across the U.S. as she raised her sons, though she was divorced in 1975.

She worked for TVA to retirement, and went on to work for JC Penny and several small businesses, but her life long career and joy was as pianist for her chosen

home church, where ever home was as her life progressed. Home was Brainerd Presbyterian in Chattanooga, TN near the last two decades of her ministry.

Her family was nearly all in and from TN, and her cousin, Mildred Estes, and her sisters

children, Teddy Carl Varner, Steve Varner, and Tricia Wilcox, and their families were dear to her, and hosted gatherings throughout her life that truly enriched her heart and soul.

Visitation will be in Brainerd Presbyterian Church from 5p.m. to 7p.m. on June 2nd, 2016. The Rev. Jonathon Schwartz and the Rev. Ron Ragon will conduct the Funeral Observance at 7 p.m. in the church.

The music will be led by Dir. Tom Hammet and the choir she loved.
