Obituary

Frank James Herty "Jim" Althaus, 86, passed away November 26, 2014. He was a resident of Signal Mountain for fifty years. Jim was a member of St. Timothys Episcopal Church where he taught Sunday School and served as Senior Warden of the Vestry.

Jim was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on August 18, 1928, the son of Brigadier General Kenneth G. Althaus and Virginia Herty Althaus. He graduated from the University of Florida in 1951 and following graduation, served in the Army Field Artillery as a First Lieutenant in Korea. He retired as Executive Vice President from Provident.

After retiring, he served on the Town Council of Signal Mountain and was the Mayor for several years. Above all, he loved his family, country, community, and his church.

Jim was preceded in death by his son, James Herty Althaus, his brother Colonel Kenneth G. Althaus Jr., and his parents. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jo, and his daughters, Dean Williford, Merrill St. Charles, Virginia Mims, and daughter-in-law, Leigh Althaus. Also, his sons-in-law, Hart Williford, Pat St. Charles III, and John Mims. As well as, nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren, who will miss him dearly.

Visitation will be at St. Timothys Episcopal Church, 630 Mississippi Ave. Signal Mountain, TN., Saturday from 1 2. Deacon Robert Hartmans will conduct the service at 2 in the church.
