George
Douglas
April 13, 1937 – May 30, 2026
On Saturday, May 30, 2026, George "Johnny" Douglas passed away to be with the Lord peacefully at home, surrounded by his family. He was 89 years old.
Originally from Hale Town, TN, Johnny was a graduate of Marion County High School. In the early 1960s, he and his beloved wife, Sharon Virginia Paris Douglas, moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee, where they raised their family. Johnny was employed by Conoco Oil for more than 30 years before retiring.
Johnny was the son of Joseph Douglas and Julia Ann Shirley Douglas of Marion County. He was an avid University of Tennessee football fan, enjoyed woodworking, and loved preparing breakfast for family - especially his famous "cathead biscuits." He enjoyed sharing stories from days gone by and reminiscing about his beloved grandson Truman's childhood, especially the time they spent together and teaching him to whittle - one of Johnny's most cherished memories.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Joseph Daniel Douglas; his sister, Eviadene Shackleford; and his daughter, Laticia Douglas.
Johnny is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Sharon Douglas; his son, William Scott Douglas (Kendi) of Kalamazoo, Michigan; his grandson, Truman Joseph Douglas of Kalamazoo, Michigan; his honorary daughter, Kendra Melissa Brookshire (Cayce) and his honorary grandchildren, McKenna and Cayson Brookshire all of McCalla, Alabama; his sister-in-law, Sarah Rose Cooper; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted by Pastor Joe Sneed on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at Abbott Chapel Cemetery in Bridgeport, Alabama at Noon CST.
