Obituary

Janice Higgins died peacefully in her sleep on May 11, 2023. Born November 16, 1933, in New Town Square, Pennsylvania. She was a proud Pennsylvanian preferring Hershey's ice cream and candy bars over all others and often reminding us of the state's history and beauty. Since 1961 she has been involved in mission service, first in the Palau Islands and in 1965 in Manado, Indonesia. She helped her husband, Edward, develop and build Mount Kalabat University (UNKLAB) there. She taught practical home economics, secretarial and typing skills and English to the many students at the school. She was interested in the lives of her students and a mentor, surrogate mother, and grandmother to many. Her joys and interest remained in the people and places they served, even after returning to the US in 1975. They returned to Palau and Indonesia two times between 2002 and 2006. She was an adventurous woman and loved to travel and drive anywhere. Each of us has known Janice through the years, and some things have remained consistent love for her husband, pride in her four children, and delight in her 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren and great cinnamon rolls. As an expression of sympathy, instead of flowers, memorial donations may be made to ADRA.org. Her wishes were for a private family gathering.
