Obituary

Jean Cooley St. Charles, 94, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, May 31, with family at her side. She was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and a long-time resident of Signal Mountain, Tennessee. Jean was one of three daughters born to Bill and Iris Cooley and married Pat St. Charles Jr, on August 23, 1952. Jean and Pat were the parents of Pat (Merri Ann), Tony (Nancy), Mike (Judy), Lynne (Charlie Hall), and Chris (Lisa). She is survived by her twin sister, June Cooley Mahan, her children, sixteen grandchildren Patrick St.Charles IV, Jesse St.Charles (Katrina), Joe Yancey, Andrew St.Charles, Richard St.Charles (Armela), Matthew St.Charles (Tara), Sarah Yancey, Sam St.Charles (Mallory), David St.Charles, Elle St.Charles Prime (Chase), Wil St.Charles (Krista), Ryan Hall (Erin), David Hall (Lauren), Erin Hall, Bonnie St.Charles (Ryan), Lucy St.Charles, and ten great grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her sister, Lois Cooley Malone, her husband and a grandchild. Jean was a competitor. She enjoyed winning and accepted losing graciously but not willingly. She enjoyed all sports, including basketball, badminton, softball, cards and watching the Braves and Tennessee Volunteer athletics. However, golf was her passion. She excelled as a player (9 holes-in-one) and more importantly in helping lead efforts to improve the game, especially for women. Her efforts were recognized through her induction into the Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame and the Tennessee Golf Association Hall of Fame. She loved her family and friends, especially her Signal Mountain GCC Ladies, Chattanooga Women's Golf Association, Tennessee Golf Association, SWATCA and United States Golf Association friends, who were a second family to her. Jean was inspirational and her love, friendship, graciousness, sense of humor and guidance will be missed. Her family expresses their thanks to the caregivers who assisted her over the past several months, including Linda, Snowe, Cel and Ashley. A visitation from 10:00 am to 11:00 am will precede an 11:00 am funeral Mass at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 1716 Anderson Pike, Signal Mountain, on Saturday, June 8. A reception will be held following the service at Signal Mountain Golf & Country Club (approximately1pm). There will be a putting contest in celebration and memory of Jean at the reception. Please bring your favorite putter(s) or use one of Jean's many putters.
