Obituary

Jerry Lou Scott was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Wilbern and Jewell Segars. She passed away peacefully on June 27, 2025, at the age of 93. She is predeceased by three sisters, Joan Ford, Shirley Smith and Nancy Rogers, two brothers, Wayne and Charles, and her parents. She is also predeceased by her husband of more than 70 years, Robert Clayton Scott. The two met and married at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City. She is survived by her four children, Steve Scott (Winnie), David Scott (Marcia), Randy Scott (Michelle) and Jana Scott Baker, 8 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Jerry Lou was raised in Oklahoma City in a caring and loving family. She attended Classen High School and graduated in 1949. She went on to attend Oklahoma State University before marrying Robert and was active in Pi Beta Phi sorority. She remained close to her Pi Phi sisters throughout her life. Jerry Lou devoted her life to her husband and was a wonderful mother to her four children. The family lived in St. Charles, MO, Norman, OK, Kerrville, TX, Vero Beach, FL, Wichita/Derby, KS, and San Antonio, TX. She lived the last three years of her life in Chattanooga, TN, near her son David and his family. Jerry Lou enjoyed singing and participated in the church choir, including her Hearts in Tune choir in San Antonio. She held offices in United Methodist Women, including President of UMW at Woodlawn Methodist Church, Reflections Circle, her Questors Sunday School class at Coker Methodist Church in San Antonio, and the Emmaus community. She was a charter member of two churches: St. Stephens Methodist in Norman, OK and St. Paul's Methodist in Kerrville, TX. She especially loved to travel and attended and supported the local symphony everywhere she lived. She was an unwavering fan of the Dallas Cowboys, the San Antonio Spurs, and her OSU Cowboys. Jerry Lou was proud of her family's heritage as a descendant of the original 300 families to settle Texas with Stephen F. Austin, known as the Old Three Hundred. As a 5th generation Texan, she regularly attended their meetings and events. She also spearheaded family reunions throughout Oklahoma and Texas, and dearly loved her nieces and nephews. She always took great interest in her grandchildren's lives and hosted Texas-based gatherings of the grandchildren for many years. A family service will be held in Rio Vista, Texas, where she will be buried at Grange Hall Cemetery/Smith Ranch Addition near her husband, her sister Shirley Smith, and other family members adjacent to the historic Smith Ranch, a place that was very special to her.
