Evangelist and Dr. Joe Lue Gene Shadowens, age 87, died Thursday, May 5, 2016, in his home with his wife Gloria by his side. He went to Heaven to be with his Lord Jesus.

After his salvation in October 1961, he knew the call of God upon his life to enter the ministry of evangelism, attending and graduating from Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, TN. Later, he attended Chesapeake Baptist College and Seminary in Severn, MD, graduating with a BS degree and a Master of Theology. In May, 2011, Reverend Shadowens was awarded the Doctor of Theology degree from The Crown College in Knoxville, TN. He traveled, preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, for 53 years. His emphasis was always on the winning of souls to his Savior.

Joe was a decorated military veteran, serving his country in the United States Navy and also in the United States Marine Corps as Special Operations. He and his entire family are very patriotic.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Morton and Eva Shadowens of Taylorville, IL, and his three sisters, Helen Wilson of Taylorville, Maudellen Waters of Jesup, GA, and Kathryn Marucco of Stonington, IL.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gloria, and his three children, Deborah Carlson (Herschel) of Alexandria, VA, Dawn Stowe (Andy) of Hartselle, AL, and Joe E. Shadowens of Atlanta, GA. as well as nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Dr. Shadowens' funeral will be held on Monday, May 9, at 10am at the Calvary Baptist Church in Trenton, GA., preceded by a viewing at 9am. He will be buried at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors at 12:30pm. Dr. Barney Lyon will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
