J. Hartly Echerd, 72, of Ooltewah, Tennessee, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Sunday, April 19, 2026. He was a local attorney for Unum Provident for over 20 years.

He was predeceased by his loving wife, Rona Carlos Echerd; father, John Echerd.

Survivors include his daughter Laura (Brooks) Slayton; grandson, Griffin Slayton; mother, Kathryn Echerd; siblings, Cynda Holmes, Amy Fowler. Also a host of nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.

A private family service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Reflection Riding, or Gentiva Hospice.
