John Robert (Bobby) Mayfield, 68, of Chattanooga, joined beloved relatives and friends in heaven, Tuesday, August 26, 2025.
Born in Chattanooga to the late John and Eva (Cooper) Mayfield, Bobby graduated from Kirkman High School. After working for several years as a boilermaker welder, he graduated with honors from Chattanooga State with an associate degree in electrical engineering.
He was a devoted partner to Beth for 27 years and loved and helped raise her son Kyle like he was his own. They shared a passion for Tennessee football, and Bobby - a self-taught, talented guitar player - filled their home with music.
Survivors include his life partner, Beth Duckett; bonus son Kyle Duckett (Paige) and their children (Jensin, Knoxlyn, Hadley); sisters, Pat Joly (Walter) and Sandra Gluck (Joel); nieces Stacy Joly, Lauren Smith, and Cara Gluck; nephews, Gary Biddle (Eve), Jason Biddle, Brent Joly (Valary) and Greg Joly (Meghan); as well as several great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents; sister Norma Biddle; brother-in-law Paul Biddle; and niece Susan (Biddle) Brewster.
The family will have a private celebration of his life and take comfort in knowing Bobby is pain free. Now unbound from the wheelchair and pain that restricted the last years of his too-short life, he is surely sharing joy, playing guitar, and recounting his entertaining yarns.
