John Reneau, 85, of Ooltewah, died Monday, October 17, 2016.
Born July 28, 1931, to Jessie Roy and Parthenia Hill Reneau. He was employed with Western Union Telegraph Company installing communication centers for the government for 24 years and as a custodian at Ooltewah High School until disability retirement.
John was a lifelong Baptist and served several churches and nursing homes with his God-given gift of singing and playing his guitar. In the last two weeks prior to his passing, he blessed many with his beautiful voice alone, no music, with two of his favorite hymns. 'I Thirst' and 'When He was on the Cross, I was on His Mind' of which he wrote and added his own last verse. For those of us who witnessed it, they were moments to cherish forever.
He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Ruth Swafford; brothers, Paul & James& recently deceased great-grandson, Daniel Fisher.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Betty; daughters, Jane (Steve) Smith, Jean (Steve) Snow; sons, Dan (Meagan) Reneau, Ronnie Reneau; grandchildren, Jeremey Snow (Danielle) Reneau, Shonda (Randy) Barber, Jason (Jessica) Smith, Stephanie Fisher, Stephen Snow, Kasi, Jesse Reneau, Averey, Brezlyn, & Bryson Reneau; thirteen great-grandchildren; his siblings, David Reneau, Mary Harris, Naomi Sims, Martha (Jim) Duricheck & numerous nieces & nephews.
Pastors Sam Cravatt & Ricky Kesley will conduct a graveside service on Friday, October 21, at 2:00 p.m. at the Pine Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery in Ooltewah.
