It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our son, Jordan LaGraff, age 44, on Sunday October 26th.
Jordan touched many lives throughout his life despite never saying a word. He engendered love and compassion by the many people caring for him. His expressive eyes, bright smile, and endless energy will be a memory for all who knew him.
Jordan started receiving special education services at age one from Chattanooga School for Exceptional Children. He continued there until age six when he started at Orange Grove Center. He lived in an OGC Group Home from age 14 until his passing.
Jordan loved listening to music, starting with Barney as a young boy and moving to Britney Spears and Beyonce as he got older. He enjoyed swinging, riding his tricycle, visiting Santa Claus, and going for rides in the car with his window down.
We are especially grateful to those at Orange Grove, including his house managers and assistants, Direct Support Personnel, doctors, nurses, therapists, teachers, and the many others who showed kindness and care toward Jordan through the years.
Jordan is survived by parents, Dan and Karen, his brother Luke (Abby Futrelle) and nephew Teddy. His brother Alex (Melissa), nephews Ben and Jack, and niece Campbell, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Due to Jordan's limitations, he does not have many of the typical life achievements, but as someone once astutely put it, "Jordan can't do much but he sure can smile." And that he did exceptionally well.
We find comfort from this quote, "The influence of children with disabilities can be far-reaching - teaching empathy, inspiration, promoting understanding and helping others to re-examine their own attitudes and behaviors. This is why they are educators of society".
