Joe Weir, 100, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Saturday, May 9, 2026. A 1944 graduate of Red Bank High School, where he played football, basketball, and baseball, Joe went on to graduate from Lipscomb University with a degree in metallurgy. He dedicated 35 years of his career to Wheland Foundry, serving as the plant metallurgist.

A lifelong member of the Church of Christ, Joe's life revolved around his devotion to the Word of God. Currently a member at White Oak Church of Christ, he previously served as a song leader at both the Red Bank and White Oak congregations. His ministry included preaching for five years at Halls Valley Church of Christ and five years at Sale Creek Church of Christ. Following his retirement, Joe and his wife, Martye, performed missionary work in Fiji and Vanuatu. He also spent many years teaching Bible study classes.

Joe was an avid sports fan and participant. He was a regular golfer and enjoyed boating and water skiing. He faithfully followed the Tennessee Vols and the Atlanta Braves, and he often joked that he "pulled for any team playing against Alabama."

Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Martye Weir; parents, Joe and Nora Weir, Sr; brother, Perry Weir.

He is survived by sons, Michael Weir and Christopher Weir; grandchildren, Kelley Davenport, Kevin Weir, Jason Weir, and Matthew Weir; and great-grandchildren, Emma Davenport, Jacob Davenport, Caleb (Elianna) Weir, Kayla Weir, Ashley Weir, Addison Weir, and Maddox Weir; sister, Ruth Weir.

The family will receive friends on Monday, May 18, 2026 at White Oak Church of Christ from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. Ron Payne will conduct a memorial service in the church at 4 p.m.
