Joyce Annette (Essex) Powell, 71, of Hixson, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 3, 2022 while surrounded by family.

Joyce was born in Chattanooga, TN on March 13, 1951. She was joined in marriage to Donald G. Powell on June 14, 1975. They raised 4 children.

Her greatest accomplishment and joy was being married to Don, the love of her life. She missed him every day since his home going in 2013. She took great pride in being a homemaker.

She was a member of New Grace Baptist Church. She loved singing in church and cleaning the church every week. She loved telling her children that she loved them, "Good, bad and ugly." Not sure which kids that was?!

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her mother, Mary P. Essex; brothers, David, Billy, Leroy; sister, JoAnn, and grandchild, Samara Anne.

She is survived by her children, John (Carol), Marie (Steve), Becky (Robert "Bob") and Sean (April). Also her brothers, Donnie, Bobby, Larry; sisters, Becky, Libby and Rosa; 13 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, July 8, 2022 from 6pm 8pm, and Saturday, July 9, 2022 from 10am 11am with the funeral (a home-going celebration) immediately following. All services will be held at New Grace Baptist Church, 243 Depot Street, Soddy Daisy, TN 37379, pastored by Bro. Lynn Carroll. This will be a home-going celebration. When asked if she was ready for heaven, she always answered, "Indubitably!"
