Martha Hogue Adkins, aged 87, died peacefully on June 24, 2014 in Chattanooga, TN, after a brief struggle with heart disease. Martha was born April 4, 1927, in York, SC, the daughter of Sam and Betty Hogue. Martha thoroughly enjoyed cooking and the outdoors. Until recently, she enjoyed hiking up to 3 miles daily & watching her children & grandchildren in various athletic events. On May 5, 1950, Martha married the love of her life Russell H. Adkins, in York, SC. Martha was a member of Christ Covenant Presbyterian (PCA) Church in Matthews, NC. Martha is survived by her sister, Betty Smart and her husband Lewis Smart; two brothers, Elmer Hogue and his wife Bonnie Hogue and Perry Hogue and his wife Claudette Hogue and son, John Russell Adkins of Dominican Republic and daughters Patricia A. Hite and her husband Leroy Hite of Ringgold, GA and Susie Courtney and her husband Lea Courtney of Lookout Mountain, GA, 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a number of other relatives and close friends. We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. Funeral will be 2 P.M.
