Obituary

Mary Agnes Lamar Fine, 93, of Chickamauga, GA, passed away on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2025. She is survived by her son, Lamar Fine. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, W. C. Fine; father, I. R. "Jack" Lamar & mother, Mary Lamar. Mary Agnes owned and operated Fine Income Tax Service for 37 years, the final 20 years, in partnership with her son, Lamar. After retiring from the tax business, she partnered with Lamar to co-write. Together, they wrote and published 7 novels, including the "Yesterday's Series" and Two Time Regional Novel of the Year, "Yesterday's Gone." along with 3 other yet to be published novels. Mary Agnes was a Lay Speaker, having preached over 100 hundred sermons to various churches, who were without a minister or filling in during the minister's absence. Mary Agnes was a life-long member of Cove Methodist Church until it closed in 1983, and then was instrumental in the restoration and forward ministry of Cove, culminating in it being placed on the National Register of Historic Places. She served as chairman of the Cove Trustees for 42 years and was the architect of the Cove Candlelight Christmas Service. Mary Agnes has been a member of Elizabeth Lee Methodist Church for 32 years, serving there in various positions. She was also an Honorary Member of Wesley Chapel Methodist Church, where she served as a Lay Speaker each month for the past 8 years. She was key in helping them disaffiliate from the United Methodist Church and regain title to their church. Although not a ball player herself, she loved to go to Lamar's baseball and softball games, and, as he admitted, she could 'tell him what he was doing wrong' and 'immediately correct his swing' better than anyone. She loved her animals... her cats and dogs... and they reciprocated with their love for her. But more than anything else, she was a Good Person, who touched and made a difference in many lives along her journey. A Graveside Service will be held at the Chickamauga Cemetery Pavilion on Friday, June 6th at 3 pm.) A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, June 8th at Cove Methodist Church, with Visitation from 12 - 3 pm with the service at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, Memorial gifts may be made to: Cove Methodist Church, 245 Garretts Chapel Road, Chickamauga, GA 30707
