Norman Mark
Glazener
Oct 6, 1962 — Oct 6, 2026
Norman Mark Glazener, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2026, at the age of 64. Mark was born and raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee, growing up in East Brainerd before spending much of his adult life in the Atlanta area.
Mark graduated from Tyner High School in 1981 and attended Chattanooga State Community College and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He later moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where he pursued a career as a professional interior decorator. After retiring, Mark returned home to Chattanooga to help care for his mother.
Mark had a compassionate and generous spirit from an early age. As a young boy, after seeing a television appeal for Save the Children, he took money from his own piggy bank to send to children in need. That desire to help others remained with him throughout his life. He helped friends through difficult circumstances, lived with and cared for his grandparents as they grew older, and looked after a 90-year-old neighbor, running errands and coming to her aid whenever she needed him.
Mark had a wonderful sense of humor and especially delighted in playfully aggravating his sister with pranks and teasing, a tradition he happily continued well into adulthood. He was also a fun uncle and great-uncle who would get down on the floor to play cars with the little ones.
Christmas held a special place in Mark's heart. A great bargain hunter, he shopped throughout the year to find just the right gifts for those he loved. When it came to decorating, Mark went all out. Even during his final Christmas, as his illness was beginning to take hold, he insisted on decorating the tree and bringing out every ornament and light he could find.
Mark knew Jesus as his Lord and Savior. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, where he served as an acolyte. He attended several churches during his years in Atlanta and, after returning to Chattanooga, attended St. Michael's Church, where he served on the Altar Guild.
Mark is survived by his loving mother, Betty Ann Buice Glazener; his sister, Stephanie Ann Randall (George); his brother, Adam Henry Glazener (Rhonda); his nephews, Andrew Randall (Stephanie), Matthew Randall (Natasha), Christopher Randall (Kaitlyn), and Dylan Glazener; two great-nephews; two great-nieces; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Norman Jennings Glazener; his grandmother, Grace Glazener Gifford; his grandparents, Hubert Henry and Doris Holley Buice; and his beloved dog and faithful companion, Chico.
The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the caregivers of Hospice of Chattanooga, and to Gabriel, Rosa Lee, and all the ladies at Gentle Hands for the compassionate care, kindness, and devotion they showed Mark.
Visitation will be held Saturday, October 17, from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. at St. Michael's Church, 6237 Vance Road, Chattanooga, Tennessee, followed by the funeral service at 3:00 p.m. A private burial will take place at a later date.
Flowers and/or memorial contributions may be sent to St. Michael's Church.
