Obituary

Owen passed away January 30, 2022 in a local hospital from complications of Covid. His love of 22 years, Terri Scott was by his side.

Owen grew up in East Chattanooga, where as a young boy he loved to go play at the recreation center. It was there one day when he was 12 years old that a man walked over and put a ball in Owens hand and said "son, one of these days I believe you are going to be a great pitcher." That man was known by many as the great EB "Red" Etter, a famous Tennessee coach. For the next 15 years, Owen fast pitched softball. He pitched for the recreation center under Coach Etter for the Mites, Midgets, Juniors and Seniors and went on to pitch for Hardy Jr. High, Cutters Laboratories, Specialty Products, Red Bank Auto Parts, Al Miller Music Store and the Plumbers Union.

Owen was a quiet man, but he would surprise you with his humor when he spoke. Owen was a die-hard Tennessee Vols fan and also loved the Atlanta Braves. There was always some kind of ballgame on at his house. He didnt ask for much except for the remote control, a Little Debbie cake and a Diet Coke.

After graduating from Central High School, Owen went to work and retired from Chattanooga Armature Works after 42 years of service. After retirement, he got bored and went to work for Campbell Blueprint as a delivery driver for 3 years, but had to quit due to a heart attack.

Owen was preceded in death by his mother, Birdie Irene Moon; father, James D. Moon Sr.; brother, James D. Moon Jr.; son, Owen Davis Moon Jr. "Boo"; daughter, Kimberly Moon Henderson, and the mother of his children, Carol Sledge Moon.

Owen is survived by his son, Terry D. Moon (Carmen) of Rossville, Ga.; sister, JoAnn Long of Rossville, Ga; Half-brother, David Moon and half-sisters, Janet Humphries and Lana Moon Johnson all of Billings, MT, several nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was loved greatly by Michael Scott, Novalee Scott, Don Lyle, Stacie Lyle and Landon Lyle and the Privett family, all of Soddy Daisy.

Due to Covid there will not be a service at this time.
