Patsy Deakins Burton, 86, of Hixson, Tennessee passed away peacefully on February 21, 2024. Patsy was born in Hixson, Tennessee, September 14, 1937 to Claxton and Pansy Deakins. She graduated Valedictorian from Hixson High School, Class of 1955. Patsy was in the 3rd grade at Hixson Elementary School, when a special little boy (John Clayton Burton) caught her eye while on the playground. They started dating in high school and after graduation, they married and spent 68 wonderful years together. Patsy attended Fairview United Methodist Church most of her life where she was pianist until moving her membership to Hixson United Methodist Church in 1980. She quickly became involved in numerous church activities and was a member of the Sammy Gooden Sunday School Class for 44 years. Patsy loved working with children and began working at Hixson Junior High/Middle School in 1972. Because of medical reasons, she retired in 2008 after enjoying 36 years at the school. Along with being an avid Tennessee Volunteer fan, Patsy enjoyed collecting giraffes, sewing, music, boating, square dancing and reading. Patsy was predeceased by her parents, Claxton and Pansy Deakins, and her sister, Deana James, all from Hixson, Tennessee. She is survived by her best friend and husband, John Clayton Burton, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and family members, all of whom she loved dearly. The family would like to thank the staff of Red Bank Life Care for their support and care during the final days of Patsy's life. Memorial contributions may be made to Hixson United Methodist Church. A Celebration of Life service will be held with family and friends, Saturday, June 29, at Hixson United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. The Reverends Charles Starks and Mark Gooden will be officiating the service.
