Ruby Diane Childress Scanlan, 88, of Chattanooga, Tennessee passed away peacefully, Thursday, June 2, 2022. She was one of the first families in Clinton, TN. She moved to Chattanooga at a young age and lived in the Highland Park area. She was a graduate of Central High School and retired from Southern Valley Optical. She greatly enjoyed caring for her grandchildren & great-grandchildren. She was an avid Tennessee Vols fan.

She was predeceased by her husband, Patrick Henry Scanlan; son, Timothy Wade Henry; parents, Herschel Otto Childress & Ruby Jewel Apple Childress; siblings, Herschel Childress, Molly Richardson, Margaret Bedwell, Dorothy Etter, Shirley Schmidt, James Childress.

Survivors include her children, Bill (Janice) Henry, Nancy (Dale) Williams, Mary (Phillip) Avans, Patricia (Tommy) Holder; ten grandchildren & ten great-grandchildren; sisters, Charlotte Williams, Nellie Brewer; brother, Steve (Debbie) Childress.

The Reverend Dennis Flaugher will conduct a graveside service on Thursday, June 9 at 11 a.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
