Sarah Hill Newman, 103, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, January 11th, 2024. She attended Clifton Hills Elementary, where her mother taught, East Lake Jr. High School and graduated from Chattanooga High School, class of 1937, where she served on the reunion committee for many years and attended Edmondson School of Business. Sarah married Charles C. Newman on March 21, 1942 of Trenton, GA. They were married in the same home she was born in East Lake. They moved to Knoxville, TN where Charles was employed by Stone & Webster Engineer as Chief Engineer with First Survey Party when Oak Ridge Project Construction was begun and Sarah was employed by Southern Railway as a Secretary in General Superintendent of Transportation Office. She and Charlie moved back to Chattanooga in the 1950's where Charlie started his land surveying company. Later Sarah went to work for Harry W. Cameron (Hotpoint Distribution) and then for American National Bank, now Truist, and retired as Assistant Vice President in the Trust Department with nearly 25 years of service. Sarah was a member of Brainerd Presbyterian Church for many years. She worked as a volunteer in the church office, Women's Ministry, won woman of the year in 1999, volunteered in the kitchen preparing meals along with various committees and member of the Sunday School Class. She volunteered many years at the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Erlanger Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles C. Newman; parents and brother, Lt. Col David A. Hill, Jr. U.S. Army and niece, Linda Hill Mason. Survivors include her son & daughter-in-law, Larry & Becky Newman; granddaughter, Amy (Mark) Pasqualini; great-grandchildren, Primo & May Pasqualini; niece, Sally Varner and nephew, Steve R. Hill. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 27 at Brainerd Presbyterian Church from 10a.m. to 11a.m. The Celebration of Life will be conducted at 11a.m. in the church. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to Brainerd Presbyterian Church.
