Obituary

Stephen Whitehill Smith, 75, of Ooltewah, died Saturday, December 21, 2019 in Chattanooga, following a long battle with illnesses caused from Agent Orange exposure while serving in Vietnam.

Mr. Smith was born in Montgomery, AL, to Horace Whitehill and Elizabeth (Flarida) Smith. After graduating High School, he enlisted in The U.S. Air Force and proudly served his country for 4 years, 1963-1967 (including Vietnam), as a 46250 Weapons Mechanic. After receiving an honorable discharge, Mr. Smith attended The University of South Florida and received a Bachelors Degree in Psychology. Later, he studied real estate appraisal and was a property appraiser for the remainder of his working career.

Mr. Smith was, not only, a great husband, father and grandfather, but also a mentor to so many. Although he had many interests (motorcycles and camping) spending time with his family was most important to him.

He leaves behind his wife of 42 years, Phyllis (Reneau) Smith; daughter, Shonda (Randy) Barber; son, Jason Whitehill (Christine) Smith; five grandchildren (Bryant, Riley, Chloe, Clayton, Stephen); 3 step- grandchildren (Robert, Tyler, Kaylee); two great-grandchildren (Ellie Smith; Wyatt Barber); mother-in-law, Betty Reneau; three brothers-in-law; a sister-in-law; seven cousins and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
