Stephen North Turner, known to everyone as Steve, passed at home on July 30, 2026, surrounded by friends and family. He was 79.

Steve was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee and made his home there. He and his brother, Bill, spent their young years riding motorcycles. He studied engineering and mathematics, then spent his career in telecommunications designing phone systems.

He had a gift for fixing things and a heart that never hesitated to help anyone. That was how he expressed his care for others.

Steve was an adventurer who studied maps the way others read novels, always thinking of the next place to explore. He was happiest in the mountains or beside the lake and was never one to sit still or do anything twice. Retirement expanded his adventures, filled his days with pickleball, bike rides, hikes, and cherished time with his seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Endlessly curious, Steve remained a lifelong learner, always eager to discover something new.

He is survived by Nancy Denton Turner, his wife of 58 years; his daughter, Kerri Turner; and his son, Nicholas (Hayley) Turner.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Eugene Turner, Sr. and Dean North Turner; his brother, William Eugene Turner, Jr.; and his daughter, Tracy Shannon Turner.

A celebration of life will be held on September 12.
