William Ralph English was born on September 30, 1936, son of Paul and Nelle English. He died peacefully at home on January 14, 2025, after battling Parkinson's disease for many years.
Ralph graduated from Grand Canyon College and Westminster Theological Seminary. He served in Korea in the army from 1961-63. He later went back to Korea as a missionary with the Orthodox Presbyterian Church from 1969 until 1987, with his wife, Joan (Grotenhuis), and four sons. Ralph and Joan served as missionaries in Suriname from 1987-1996, and then Ralph served in various OPC pastorates in the US until 2002. He and Joan moved to Flintstone, GA, in 2002, where he remained an active and beloved part of Cornerstone OPC until his death.
Ralph was predeceased by his brother David and sister Carol Lynn.
He is survived by his wife Joan, sons Paul (Judi), Timothy (Jenny), Daniel (Jenn), and William, Jr.; twenty grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren; brothers Dwight (Ronnie) and Jonathan (Kim), sisters Winnie Sullivan and Jeanette DeLong, and sister-in-law Joy English; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Cornerstone Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 1813 Long Street in Chattanooga, on Thursday, January 23, at 4 pm. Interment will follow the next day at Chattanooga National Cemetery at 1:30 pm.
