William ("Bill") Francis Tracy, 82, of Red Bank, Tennessee passed peacefully from this life at his home on May 30, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frances Farrell Tracy and William Spann Tracy. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nathalyn Harvison, children Jeannie Kaye Tracy (Cliff), William James Tracy (Melissa), John Daniel Tracy (Christina) and Bernice Frances Tracy (Judd), six grandsons, and three granddaughters.
Bill was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 29, 1941. After serving in both the United States Air Force and Navy, Bill pursued his formal education in psychology, earning a bachelor's and a master's degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and a doctoral degree in educational psychology from the University of Mississippi. After earning his doctorate, Bill served with the State of Tennessee as an educational psychologist until 1986. In 1985, he was awarded the prestigious Colonel Aide de Camp award by Governor Lamar Alexander for his work developing an adaptive communications computer for his friend, ALS patient Dr. David Rabin. After moving to Chattanooga in 1986, Bill opened his own educational psychology practice, conducting psychological evaluations for school systems and other organizations throughout southeastern Tennessee.
Bill had many hobbies and passions. He had a lifelong love of the outdoors, was an avid fisherman, and a dedicated observer of the cosmos. In recent years, he took up astrophotography and kept his friends and family amazed with his many photos of the moon and stars. At his request, there will not be a formal memorial service. Bill will be greatly missed by his friends, and always by his family.
