Charles Jackson Shelton

Charles Jackson "Jack" Shelton, 92, originally of Tusquitte, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at Hospice of Chattanooga in January 2022 of kidney failure and Covid-19.  He proudly served in the Air Force as a mechanic (1951-56), and retired from working with Tennessee law enforcement.  Jack had a passion for criminal investigation that made for some very interesting scrapbooks. 

Jack was predeceased by his parents, David Grant and Minnie Bell (Kitchens); first wife, Billie Joan Teeter; brothers, Ernest, James, and Bill; and children, Jeffery Scott and Jackie Osborne.  His ancestry was very important to him, and Jack spent many hours researching and retelling their stories.

Immediate survivors include his dearly loved wife of almost 47 years, Brenda Sue (Manning) and children Michael (Margaret), Mark (Gayla), and Skye Bryant (Jared).

"Papa Jack's" grandchildren include: Denise Varnell, Jeff Varnell, Walter Keeton, Greg Sisco, Daniel Sisco, Heath Shelton, Shane Shelton, Rachel Riehl, Sarah Tipton, Genevieve Bryant, and Penelope Bryant.  He is also survived by many great-grandchildren, nephews, and nieces. While his health precluded him from keeping in touch with many in the family, Jack was so proud of the people his children and grandchildren grew into and loved them all so much. 

He found great comfort in his last days knowing that he was going home to Heaven to be with Jesus. He was a member of Morris Hill Baptist Church.  There is so much we could say about him, but suffice it to say he was loved and will be missed until we see him again one day.  

The family will conduct a memorial service June 11 at 11:00am at Moss Baptist Church in Hayesville, NC.
