Ellen Smith Obituary

Ellen Smith was born on April 19, 1952 in what is now known as Ooltewah, Tennessee to Mildred McCreary and John Emery, Sr.

She resided in Ooltewah where she met her husband Robert Lee Smith, Sr. until her later years in life where she moved to Chattanooga.

Ellen was known by so many, from her immediate family to her church family and you could never forget her YMCA family. She always had a smile on her face even through the bad days. Her love for the Lord would shine in front of everyone and she was a true example of the Lord’s child.

Ellen passed away at NHC of Chattanooga early on the morning of September 29, 2019 from brain cancer.

She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Thomas; children, Robert and Namon Smith and her husband.

Survivors include her brother, John Emery; grandchildren, Latoia Glatt, Thomas Smith, Jessica Smith, Taleea Smith, Anthony Smith, Jalan Smith, Jamal Smith, Eli Smith and her five great-granddaughters.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 4 in Ooltewah Baptist Church from 11am to 1pm. The Rev. Gerald Spence, Sr. will conduct the funeral at 1pm in the church. Interment will follow in Tyner Cemetery.
