Herbert "Herbie" T. Anderson

Herbert T. Anderson, 83, a resident of Chattanooga, TN, went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 27, 2023.  He was born in Brooklyn, NY where he resided until November 1960, when he enlisted in the US Army.  Herb (aka “Herbie”) loved his country and proudly served the majority of his time overseas until he returned in July 1962 when he was discharged.  He then married Lorraine Jonswald and moved to NJ, where he resided for 30 years to raise his 3 children, Shirley, Sandy and Jeff.  He was the VP of Sales for Mahalik Corp. for many years before he retired in 1993 and moved to Chattanooga where he resided for the next 30 years.

Herb loved Jesus, his family, music, church, bowling, baseball, his country, and life in general.  He loved music and playing the piano for whomever would listen or just even by himself.  He sang in several church choirs over the years, including Silverdale Baptist where he was a member, and also with the Ted Cornell Chorale for many of his earlier years.  He loved to laugh & have a good time with all.  He was an avid bowler and even achieved a score of 298!  He was proud of his hometown of Brooklyn and was always a Brooklyn Dodgers fan at heart.

He was predeceased by his father, David Anderson; stepfather, Sam Jorgensen; mother, Thora Jorgensen; brother, Otto Anderson; nieces, Betty Anderson Villars and Lynda Anderson. 

He is survived by his beloved children,  Shirley Zytko & husband, Rich Zytko, Sandra Anderson Diaz & husband, Tolentino, Jeffrey Anderson & Patty Moon, Thomas Wakeling; beloved grandchildren, Alex Zytko, Corey Zytko, Drew Zytko, Kara Zytko, Kaia Diaz, Mattias Diaz, and Christian Anderson. 

A military graveside service will take place at Chattanooga National Cemetery on Friday, November 17, 2023 at 10:30 a.m.  A Celebration of Life Service will take place on Friday, November 17, 2023 at Lake Hills Church of God, 4240 Third Ave, Chattanooga, TN at 6:30 p.m. for fellowship & 7:00 p.m. service.
