On July 26, 2022, Joan A. Davis went home to be with her husband, A. Jay Davis, and the Lord. Joan was a faithful Christian her entire life, but her fear of water had kept her from being Baptized until August 8th, her mother’s birthday, last year. Joan loved cooking and feeding everyone, horseback riding the mountain trails, and her dog, Mindi. Her true love beyond these were her family and friends. Always making the time to talk to anyone needing help and encouragement and doing without when others were in need. One of her favorite phrases to hear was “Granny Joan, what do you have good to eat?” when family would come to visit, and she loved crocheting a baby blanket for a new addition to the family.
Joan was born in Crossville, TN and grew up there. She graduated from Cumberland County High School and married A. Jay Davis on December 20, 1964. After living briefly in Ohio, they moved to Chattanooga where they lived the rest of their lives.
Preceding Joan in death are her parents, Jack Burkhart, and Verna Holloway Burkhart, both of Crossville, TN; husband, Armon Jay Davis; brother, George J. Burkhart; sister-in-law, Joy Burkhart and niece, Jana Sansom.
Relatives include her son, Jason (Angela) Davis; sister, Barbara (Bobby) Burden; brother, Jerry Burkhart, and sister-in-law, Debbie Burkhart; grandchildren, Justin Bishop (Mason) and Amber (Anthony, Hunter Waddell, Cole, Jaxtyn) Smith; special niece, Kristie (Kevin, Gracie, Jack) O’Connor, Bobby (Melody, Emma, Bob) Burden Jr, Gina (Doug) Brock; great-niece, Lacey (George, Gabriel, Everly) Jones and Nikki Sansom and her friend who is considered family, Judy Winkler.
