John Echerd Obituary

John C. Echerd, 94, of Ooltewah, Tennessee passed away at home on October 27, 2020. He was the son of Charles and Flora Echerd and was raised in Taylorsville, N.C.

John is survived by his wife of 71 years, Kathryn Sylar Echerd; son, Hartly Echerd (Rona); daughters, Amy Fowler (Jimmy) and Cynda Holmes (Dale); grandchildren, Ian Fowler, Laura Echerd Slayton, Elisha Fowler, and Jameson Sylar Holmes and four great-grandchildren.

A World War II veteran, he served for 41 years and retired as a Commander in the U.S. Naval Reserves.

John worked at TVA for 33 years and retired as Chief of Personnel for the Division of Power.

He was a 71-year member of Ooltewah Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and was deacon emeritus.

He was especially proud of his 30 years of service with the Sons of the American Revolution, serving as registrar and president of the John Sevier chapter, president of the Tennessee Society and attending state and national conferences throughout the country. He served on several state and national committees, was a national trustee and served as chairman of the Friends of the Library committee for 15 years.

The family will celebrate his life at a private graveside service.
