Karen Fisher entered her heavenly home on March 14 from her earthly home under the care of her family and hospice. She was born to the Rev. and Mrs. Kenneth A. Horner, Jr. in Philadelphia PA on January 26, 1948. She grew up in Wilmington, DE. She came to know Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior as a child, and she lived with the hope of eternal life throughout her life. She received her bachelor’s degree from Covenant College and was committed to Christian education.
On June 1, 1974, Karen and Richard Fisher married the same week he graduated from Westminster Theological Seminary. Karen was the secretary to the Dean of Students, Dr. Ray Dillard. God blessed Karen and Dick with three daughters: Dorothy, Rachel (deceased as an infant), and Jessica. Together, Karen and Dick served the Lord in seven states where Dick was a pastor or hospice chaplain.
Karen was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. In life, she was also a gifted musician (voice, clarinet, and piano), independent thinker, and avid homemaker. Karen cooked from scratch, baked delicious pies, crafted beautiful quilts, and loved hybrid tea roses which Dick grew for her.
She was predeceased by her parents; sister, Janice, and infant daughter, Rachel.
She is survived by Dick, her husband of 47 years and their two daughters, Dorothy George, and Jessica (Andy) Hansen, and Andy and Jessica’s children: Anemone, Isaiah, Joy, Robin, Josiah, and Moriah, plus Karen’s brother, Richard (April) Horner and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, March 18, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 554 McCallie Avenue, Chattanooga. The Reverend Joe Novenson will conduct the service in the church at 11 a.m.
