Nancy Witten (McCall) Jackson

Nancy M. Jackson, 83, of East Ridge, passed away on October 26, 2019. She was surrounded by her daughter and friends.

She is predeceased by her husband, David Jackson; parents, Clarence and Lovella McCall; brothers, Warren McCall, Clarence McCall, Jr, Morris McCall, and sister, Eleanor Jean McCall. She is survived by her daughter, Pam Jackson; sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends.

On May 10, 1936, Clarence and Lovella McCall, welcomed their first daughter, Nancy Witten McCall, into their growing family. Her two older brothers weren't sure about having a sister, but the ever head-strong Nancy quickly won them over. Nancy went through school in Tazewell, VA, and after graduating from high school, she started college in the fall of 1954 at Hiwassee College in Madisonville, TN. On September 9, 1954, her first day of college, many miles from home, she met her future husband, David Jackson. A friend had introduced them, and asked of each of them to look after the other. The other boys at the college never had a chance; Nancy was as smitten with David as he was with her. They were married on August 19, 1956, in Nancy's home church in Tazewell, VA. David went on to attend Emory and Henry College, in Emory VA. Nancy worked at the college and they lived in married housing. On a trip to Chattanooga, TN for a visit to Wesley Memorial Church, they both realized they liked the city and made plans to return and eventually live there. But first they went to Richmond, VA, for a job opportunity, and while they lived in Richmond, their daughter, Pamela Susanne Jackson was born on January 12,1959. Their chance to live in Chattanooga came about in 1960, and in March of 1960, in the midst of an ice storm, they moved to Chattanooga. Nancy worked at Siskins Center for many years and they were members of Brainerd United Methodist Church. Nancy enjoyed being busy, and being outside was one of her great joys. But the greatest joy of her life was her daughter Pam, and her husband, David. They lived in Chattanooga for the next 59 years. Thick or thin, busted or flush, they never left each other’s side.

Nancy M. Jackson passed away on October 26, 2019, 5 months after her beloved husband.

The family will receive friends at Brainerd United Methodist Church on Monday, November 11 from 11a.m. to noon. The Rev. Tim Bracken will conduct the service at noon in the church.
