Patsy Burton Obituary

Patsy Deakins Burton was born in Hixson, Tennessee on September 14, 1937, to Claxton and Pansy Deakins. She graduated Valedictorian from Hixson High School, Class of 1955. After graduation, she married the love of her life and best friend, John Clayton Burton and were blessed to spend 68 wonderful and adventurous years together!

One of Patsy's life callings was to work with children; it was one of her greatest joys! She began working at Hixson Junior High/Middle School in 1972. After enjoying 36 fulfilling years at the school, she retired in 2008.

As a child, Patsy was raised in Fairview United Methodist Church where she served for 42 years. As she grew up, her interest in music led her to become their pianist. She later joined Hixson United Methodist Church in 1980. Always wanting to remain active, she quickly became involved in numerous church activities and was a member of the Sammy Gooden Sunday School Class for 44 years.

Patsy had many hobbies, including a massive giraffe collection, sewing, music, reading, as well as planting and growing flowers. She was also an avid Tennessee Volunteer fan.

Patsy passed away peacefully on February 21, 2024, at the age of 86. She was surrounded by love with her husband and family by her side. Patsy was predeceased by her parents, Claxton and Pansy Deakins, and sister, Deana James, all from Hixson, Tennessee.

Surviving family includes her husband, John Clayton Burton, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and a host of family members, all whom she loved dearly.

The family appreciates and would like to thank the staff of Red Bank Life Care for their care and support during the final days of Patsy's life.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hixson United Methodist Church.

A Celebration of Life service will be held with family and friends, Saturday, March 30, at Hixson United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. The Reverends Charles Starks and Mark Gooden will be officiating the service.
