Paul Staton, Jr. Obituary

Paul J. Staton, Jr., age 75, of Cleveland, Tennessee, a cherished husband, devoted father, doting papaw, and treasured friend, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Thursday, March 14, 2024.

Paul was a worker. From sun-up to sundown, Paul was always busy. Over 25 years of his work life was spent behind the wheel of a double-18 wheeler driving cross country to California on a weekly basis. He described it as gas stations and cleaning windshields. Paul found joy and fulfillment in working with his hands. His second career at Papaw’s Workshop reflected that interest. His passion for caring for others through his work was evident to all around him.

A loving husband, Paul shared a bond with Linda that transcended words. Their partnership was built on a foundation of mutual respect, unwavering support, and enduring love. Together, they weathered life's challenges with grace and determination, creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, and love.

Paul was known by many names: Dad, Sweetie, Papaw, Paul Man, Goofy, Shorty, and Uncle Shorty. Regardless of the name you called him, you always knew you could count on him.

Beyond his roles as a husband, father, and papaw, Paul was a loyal friend whose presence brought light into the lives of those around him. His infectious smile, kind heart, and willingness to lend a helping hand endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Paul touched the lives of many with his genuine warmth and compassion.

Perhaps a cowboy at heart, Paul’s other great passion was Westerns. From Marshall Dillion to the Cartwright boys and John Wayne, Paul loved immersing himself in tales of the Wild West. Doc Adams from Gunsmoke said it best, “I know that words are not going to wash away the hurt you feel now, but it might help for you to remember that it’s no small thing for a man to die happy.”

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Anna Mae Staton. Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Linda Sterling Staton. Children: Jeff “Jeffro” Staton; stepchildren: Melanie Baden, Christie (Steve) Williamson; grandchildren: David, Ashley, Jake S., Morgan, Jake B., Lindsey, Bo, Josh, Kaleigh and Julia and ten great grandchildren. Siblings: Carolyn Webb, David (Martha) Staton, and Joann Woody. Nieces and nephews: Rusty, Cathy, Angel, and Tandi. Great-nephews Christopher and Logan and great-niece Grace.

The family would also like to thank all of the people who helped care for Paul and made his life - even during his extended illness - comfortable and joyous. Madeline and

Madison Dasher, Megan and Madison Shean, Brooklyn Dobyns, Logan Cross, Robin Evans, and the Cleveland Branch of the Hospice of Chattanooga. Thanks also to Paul and Linda’s Keith Street Ministries family for being such a wonderful example of the hands and feet of Jesus.

Visitation will be on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Keith Street Ministries, 4000 Keith Street, Cleveland, TN from 1:00pm to 2:00pm.
