On Friday, January 1, 2021, Robert Leroy Doss passed away at home at age 83 surrounded by his loved ones.
Robert was born on June 4, 1937 to Earl and Jenny Lee Doss. His twin sister Reba and his brothers enjoyed a simple lifestyle including helping in his dad’s shoe repair shop. He graduated from Rossville High School where he played in the marching band. He also played the mandolin at Cadek Conservatory. He worked on the loading docks at Associated Freight and later retired from Roadway where he achieved a million-mile safety record.
Robert loved people. He was characterized by always having time to visit, encourage or share a story. He was passionate about God’s Word, continually searching scripture and references books to learn more about his Heavenly Father.
He loved all kinds of music, especially gospel and the oldies. Even toward the end of his Alzheimer’s disease that took his memory and eventually his communication, he would still hum, sing and clap to his favorites.
Robert was the epitome of love, forever smiling, whistling and ready to give a hug. He lived life with the “glass half full” viewpoint. “It could always be worse”, he would say. He was kind, gentle and humble to the core.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jo-Ann Doss; son Rob, daughter Angela (George) Foster, son Mike (Lori) Doss and daughter Cindy (Chris) Wilson. He was our precious “Poppy” to 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. His extended family including in-laws was special to him.
Due to COVID-19, there will only be a graveside service for immediate family. Pastor Danny Henson officiating. We encourage you to support us and honor Robert by sharing your warm words, photos and lovely memories at www.CovenantFuneral.com.
Robert will be missed beyond words yet his legacy will live on in the family and friends that loved him so much.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alzorg.com) can be made in honor of Robert.
