Roy Stephen Grider, aged 79, peacefully left this world and crossed over into his heavenly home on November 18, 2023, while surrounded by his loving family and friends. Steve was born June 18, 1944 in Hollywood, Alabama. He lived in Chattanooga for several years before settling just outside of Houston, Texas where he lived for more than 40 yrs. He moved back home to Chattanooga in March of 2022. Steve was a member of St. John United Methodist Church in Chattanooga.
Steve was preceded in death by his loving wife of 40 years, Carole McCullough Grider; parents, Boyd Grider and Mattie Grider; brothers, John and Sammy Grider; sisters, Betty Ramey and Linda Nelson.
Steve is survived by his two sons, Rick (Carla) Grider of Harrison; Randy Grider of Hixson; two grandchildren, Nicole & Brittany; three great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Ashlynn and Brantlee; brother, Dwight Grider of Florida; several nieces and nephews; three "bonus" grandchildren, Kayti, Logan and Hayden and one "bonus" great-grandson, Ronan.
Steve was a kind and loving man who never met a stranger. He loved his family most of all. He also loved to fish. In his last days, he told everyone "I'm ready to go to heaven and go fishing with Jesus!" Steve also loved animals, especially dogs. He spent a good part of his life in Texas raising and showing Canaan dogs. Steve was a retired truck driver. Steve proudly served in the United States Army in the 1960's.
A graveside service will be held at the Chattanooga National Cemetery on Friday, November 24, 2023 at 2 p.m., with Pastor Carl Blackburn officiating. In lieu of flowers, Steve requested that donations be made to St. John United Methodist Church - Children & Youth ministries. A special thank you to Adoration Hospice for the wonderful care provided to Steve in his final days.
