Sharon McCarroll DeLoach, 77, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2022 with family & friends at her side.
She was born on January 21, 1945, to the late Hiram and Jessie Curtis McCarroll. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Billy Hugh “Buddy” McCarroll, Edward McCarroll, David “Mike” McCarroll, and her sister, Mary Lou Bryant.
Sharon was a member of Chattanooga High School class of 1963. She worked as an executive assistant at Provident Insurance for 35 years and at EMJ Corporation as a contract writer for 15 years where she was known for her dependability and exceptional work ethic. She was married to Herbert DeLoach, Jr. for 21 years and they had many fun adventures together. They divorced in 1987, but maintained a friendly relationship as they raised their daughter, Anne. Sharon was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church for 30 years where she served on the Altar Guild. In her retirement, she joined St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church and was instrumental in their food pantry community outreach program, as well as Bags of Hope, a community ministry directly serving those experiencing homelessness in Chattanooga. She was an avid walker and spent countless hours clocking miles on the Tennessee RiverPark where she made many friends and kept an eye on all the great blue herons. She also enjoyed hiking, gardening, traveling with family to the Smokies and St. George Island, FL, and spending time with her grandchildren, to whom she was completely devoted. “Aunt Ninny” kindly opened her home for innumerable gatherings with family and friends over the years, creating a lasting legacy of happy memories for all who gathered. She will be best remembered for her big breakfasts after sleepovers, love of games and the outdoors, indulgent desserts, and never missing a birthday.
Sharon is survived by her daughter, Anne DeLoach Kaltreider (Christian) of Asheville, NC; brother Don McCarroll of Depauw, IN; sister Sara DeGalleford of Chattanooga; sisters-in-law Carol McCarroll of Murfreesboro, TN and Patty McCarroll of Jasper, FL; grandchildren Sallie and Clay; and many nieces and nephews.
