William Shunk Obituary

William A. Shunk, aged 88, died Tuesday, December 17, 2019. He joins his wife, Mary (Ritchey) Shunk along with parents: Peter and Mabel Shunk,  his brothers: Peter and Francis, grandson: James Turnmeyer.

Mr. Shunk is survived by his sister, Rosalie Baker. He is also survived by three daughters: Mary Lou Schram (Doug), Frances Groome (Larry) and Diane Bryant (Wendell); three grandchildren (Eddie, Sarah and Wendell); two great-grandchildren (Zoe and Jack); and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Born into a military family on November 16, 1931 at West Point, NY, Mr. Shunk spent his childhood seeing the world. He attended VMI, earning a BS in electrical engineering (class of 1952). Mr. Shunk was then commissioned as an officer in the United States Army. After a successful career, he retired as a Lt. Colonel. Upon retirement, Mr. Shunk started a second career at the Oak Ridge Nuclear facility.

During the course of his retirement, Mr. Shunk was active in his church, Civitans, SCORE and The ROMEO Club. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
