Hospice

What hospice is, what it isn’t, and how we work together to make this easier for everyone

Hospice is one of the most misunderstood parts of end‑of‑life care.

Some people think it means “giving up.”

Some think it means “the end is here right now.”

Some think it’s only for the last day or two.

Some think it’s a place.

Some think it’s a service.

Some think it’s a sign they should panic.

What Hospice Actually Is

Hospice is comfort-focused care for people who are nearing the end of life.

It’s not about speeding anything up or slowing anything down.

It’s about:

  • comfort
  • pain control
  • support
  • quality of life
  • helping families breathe again

Hospice steps in when treatment is no longer the goal — or no longer helping — and comfort becomes the priority.

It’s one of the few parts of this process that actually brings relief instead of more stress.

What Hospice Is Not

Let’s clear up the biggest myths:

  • Hospice is not “giving up.”
  • Hospice is not only for the last day or two.
  • Hospice is not a place you “go to.”
  • Hospice is not the same as a funeral home.
  • Hospice does not take over your home.
  • Hospice does not mean someone is going to pass immediately.

Hospice is support for the patient and the family.

What Hospice Does

Hospice teams are some of the most compassionate, steady people you’ll ever meet.

They help with:

  • pain and symptom management
  • medications
  • equipment (beds, oxygen, supplies)
  • emotional support
  • spiritual support (if wanted)
  • guidance for the family
  • 24/7 on-call help
  • pronouncing the death when the time comes

They’re the people who show up quietly, calmly, and without drama — the ones who make the hardest moments feel less frightening.

What Hospice Doesn’t Do

This is where families often get confused, and it’s not their fault — the system is complicated.

Hospice does not:

  • remove your loved one from the home
  • transport them
  • file paperwork
  • handle arrangements
  • make decisions on your behalf
  • choose a funeral home for you

That’s where we come in.

How Hospice and Covenant Funeral & Crematory Work Together

Think of hospice and us as two parts of the same support system — different roles, same goal: making this easier for you.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Hospice handles the medical side.
  2. We handle the after‑death side.
  3. We communicate directly so you don’t have to manage anything.
  4. You’re never stuck in the middle.
  5. You’re never left guessing who to call.

When the time comes, you simply tell hospice:

“We’re using Covenant Funeral & Crematory.”

They’ll notify us, and we’ll take it from there.

You Don’t Have to Rush

This is one of the most important things hospice teaches — and we honor it too.

After a death:

  • You can sit with your loved one
  • You can wait for the family
  • You can take your time
  • You can have a moment of quiet
  • You can breathe

There is no timer.

There is no “right” amount of time.

There is only what feels right for you.

A Note for Hospice Nurses, Social Workers, and Chaplains

This chapter is for you too.

You’re the ones walking families through the hardest days of their lives.

You’re the ones answering questions at 2 a.m.

You’re the ones who see the fear, the confusion, the exhaustion, and the love up close.

We want to make your job easier — not harder.

That’s why we offer something simple and rare in this industry:

  • An open invitation to see our process firsthand.
  • Not a tour.
  • Not a sales pitch.
  • Not a “preferred provider” presentation.
  • Just transparency.

Come see:

  • How we care for people
  • How our process works
  • How we communicate
  • How we support families
  • How we make your handoff easier
  • How do we remove stress instead of adding to it

And here’s the part we want to say clearly:

We’re a resource for you, too — even if the family chooses another funeral home.

If you have questions, need clarity, want to understand how something works, or just want a place to get straight answers without the industry fog, you can call us.

No agenda.

No pressure.

No expectation that you’ll send families our way.

We’re here because hospice and funeral care should feel like a team — not two separate worlds families have to navigate alone.

When you understand what happens on our side, you can speak to families with confidence — and they feel safer because you feel confident.

We’re on the same team.

If You Remember Nothing Else

Remember this:

Hospice is support.

Hospice is comfort.

Hospice is clarity.

Hospice is not the end — it’s the beginning of a gentler chapter.

And when the time comes, hospice and Covenant Funeral & Crematory work together so you’re never carrying this alone.
